SKIING MAG COVER-germany-December2009

Last season I got a fire under my ass to create a night image utilizing a decent size cliff. I spoke with photographer Erik Seo about the idea, and he was down. He showed up at Brighton with 2,000 lbs of gear and an assistant, Austin Holt. We kicked it for awhile up top for the sun to go completely down, got out to the cliff, it was dumping out, and a fresh couple of feet had fallen already the previous two days. Seo hooked up all his millions of lights, cameras, wires, flashes, remotes, gels, etc, etc. And he nailed it. Very pleased with this shot. Thanks Seo.

Check out the list of gear he used for this shot:

*Nikon D3
*Nikon 50mm f1.8D lens
*(6) Pocket Wizard Plus 2 Transcievers
*Elinchrom Ranger RX AS Speed + A Head with 10.75″ 50 degree reflector
*Alien Bees 800 + 400 heads with 11″ Sports Reflectors
*(2) DIY power packs for Alien Bees
*(5) Nikon SB80 DX Speedlight flashes
*Bogen gels
*Black Diamond Spot Headlamp
*Black Diamond Icon Headlamp

Pretty wild jumping cliffs in total darkness with flashes hitting you in the eyes on the way down. The process went like this - Seo would light up the landing while I peered off the edge of the cliff, I’d memorize what to expect/where to land, then he’d turn off the lights, I hike to the top of my in-run for the cliff. Laughing looking at a take-off to darkness. Loving it!
