Keep your domepiece happy this season

As the season is getting under way, I’d like to suggest a few items to enhance the experience of your head:

Smith Maze helmet and Phenom goggle combo, available at Backcountry.com for only $215.91

I wear this combo everyday pretty much, this is a deal and I fully endorse the functionality, looks, and comfort of both the Maze helmet and Phenom goggle. The Maze is the lightest certified helmet on the market.

I suggest buying this helmet one size bigger than you usually do. I wear a size Medium helmet, but I wear a Large in the Maze. Reason? I wear a Discrete Doyonator underneath the Maze, also available at Backcountry.com:

Be sure to remove the earpads when you rock a beanie underneath.

Cheers! May your dome be happy this winter!

Meet the wiliest of all coyotes: Hit by a car at 75mph, embedded in the fender for 600 miles - and SURVIVED!

When a brother and sister struck a coyote at 75mph they assumed they had killed the animal and drove on. They didn’t realize this was the toughest creature ever to survive a hit-and-run. Eight hours, two fuel stops, and 600 miles later they found the wild animal embedded in their front fender - and very much alive.

Daniel and Tevyn East were driving at night along Interstate 80 near the Nevada-Utah border when they noticed a pack of coyotes near the roadside on October 12. When one of the animals ran in front of the car, the impact sounded fatal so the siblings thought there no point in stopping. ‘Right off the bat, we knew it was bad,’ Daniel explained. ‘We thought the story was over.’

After the incident around 1am, they continued their 600 mile drive to North San Juan - even stopping for fuel at least twice.
But it was only when they finally reached their destination at 9am did they take time to examine what damage they may have sustained.

At first it looked as though it was going to be quite gruesome. ‘[Daniel] saw fur and the body inside the grill,’ Tevyn East said. ‘I was trying to keep some distance. Our assumption was it was part of the coyote - it didn’t register it was the whole animal.’ Daniel East got a broom to try and pry the remains out of the bumper and got the shock of his life.

‘It flinched,’ Tevyn East said. ‘It was a huge surprise - he got a little freaked out.’
‘We knew it was bad’: Tevyn East, who
was in the car when it hit the coyote, bends down to take a look at the fur poking through the fender.

Fur Pete’s sake: What Mr. East spotted as he bent down to inspect the damage to his car - the body of the Coyote poking out through the radiator.

Wily coyote: The animal’s head can be seen as rescuers took apart the front fender to save it after it was struck by the car at 75mph.

Miracle escape: As the animal struggled, wildlife protection officials put a loop around its neck to prevent it from further injuring itself. The front of the car is completely taken apart as the coyote begins to wriggle free.

And voila! Tricky the toughest coyote ever rests in a cage after its ordeal - which it survived with just some scrapes to its paw.

Shadow Intellect

The Cruel, Non-Enlightened, Flat, And Unusual World Of The Unwise Is An Interesting Place to Interpret and Advance on Aggressively.

Being Wise, Amidst The Unwise. Taking Advantage Of Intellect. The Dark Shadowy Corners Of Your Personality Come Out. Is It Confidence Or Stupidity That Propels You To Take Another Shot. Propulsion Into The Dark Jungle Of The Drunk. Your Chest Is Up, While Others Slouch.

Another Shot. Embark On The Jungle. You Put Trust Into Your Conscious - It Is Strong. It Is Healthy. It Is Alive. Another Shot. Is Is Evil.

“WHO DARES TO ENTER THIS ARENA.?” States The Entity Of The Wild, Ready, and Rowdy. I DO.

The Clever One. My Mind Is A Machete Hacking, Blazing This Jungle.

“WHO DARES TO QUESTION THIS.?” You State. WE DO. States The Entity. Our Gravity Is Substantial. Navigation Of This Landscape Is Tricky. Dangerous Men Thrive Here. Beware.

You Focus Your Stare. Another Shot. You’re Not Afraid. You’re Confident. You Will Not Be Shook. You Are Leading An Army. The Petrified Shark Eyes.

The Jungle Presents A Signifigant Obstacle. Your Memory. Interiorly Your Conscious Checks In To Communicate. It Has Reached Its Last Gasp.

The Entity Runs His Fingers Through His Hair and He Smirks, He Was Rooting For You. You Didn’t Like That. You Laugh At Him And Your Conscious. The Evil One Now Presides. Entity Steps Aside.

You Turn Around To See A Legion On Your Behalf. They Are Scared, Willing, And Eager. These Dangerous Men, You Deem, Do Not Suspend. A Hand You Will Not Lend.

Another Shot. Who Will Penetrate The Heart Of The Jungle. You Are Now Being Steered By The Evil, Clever One. Headbutting The Hesitant, Running Rowdy With The True Gunslingers Of This Desolate Cold Existance. All Others Left Behind.

All The While You Are Smirking. Are You An Explorer. Do You Dare To Go Further, What Are You Accomplishing. Is It A Form Of Testing Your Sureness In Yourself Or A Form Of Loosening Your Harness On Respect, For Society, For Other People, Yourself, Boundaries, Rules. It’s Hard To Gauge.

The Entity Follows You With Aghast.

For The Rest Of Your Night Can Not Be Expressed Through Words, Memory, Or Thought.

It Is Between You, the Clever One, The Evil One, And The Entity.

Then You Wake Up. And Drink Water.

SKIING MAG COVER-germany-December2009

Last season I got a fire under my ass to create a night image utilizing a decent size cliff. I spoke with photographer Erik Seo about the idea, and he was down. He showed up at Brighton with 2,000 lbs of gear and an assistant, Austin Holt. We kicked it for awhile up top for the sun to go completely down, got out to the cliff, it was dumping out, and a fresh couple of feet had fallen already the previous two days. Seo hooked up all his millions of lights, cameras, wires, flashes, remotes, gels, etc, etc. And he nailed it. Very pleased with this shot. Thanks Seo.

Check out the list of gear he used for this shot:

*Nikon D3
*Nikon 50mm f1.8D lens
*(6) Pocket Wizard Plus 2 Transcievers
*Elinchrom Ranger RX AS Speed + A Head with 10.75″ 50 degree reflector
*Alien Bees 800 + 400 heads with 11″ Sports Reflectors
*(2) DIY power packs for Alien Bees
*(5) Nikon SB80 DX Speedlight flashes
*Bogen gels
*Black Diamond Spot Headlamp
*Black Diamond Icon Headlamp

Pretty wild jumping cliffs in total darkness with flashes hitting you in the eyes on the way down. The process went like this - Seo would light up the landing while I peered off the edge of the cliff, I’d memorize what to expect/where to land, then he’d turn off the lights, I hike to the top of my in-run for the cliff. Laughing looking at a take-off to darkness. Loving it!

Good deal fantastico
