Alta Athlete/Photographer meeting/social 2009

About 100 of the people that make a large part of the professional ski scene at Alta gathered for a meeting yesterday.

Everyone paying attention to mountain director, Onno, as he explains that all he wants all of us to do this winter is “have fun, and be nice to people.” What a pimp. And by pimp, I mean rad dude. That is great advice.

Discrete Party Postponed Until January 10

For the first time in my life, I wasn’t 100% stoked on tons of snowfall. The roads got too bad to travel from SLC to Park City tonight for the party. NPR was saying 2 hour drive, with lots of accidents in Parleys canyon. I’m keeping it safe and we’ll get our rug-cutting done on January 10. DJ Knucklz will still be DJ-ing and Kountry Boi will still be introduced. For you guys that live in Park City, i guess I don’t have an excuse. But tell your friends, aunts, cousins, and pets .. shin-diggery now going down Jan10.

And remember, we have boatloads of gear to give-away. Boatloads, maybe even planeloads.

!Happy Holidays!

Ice Volcanos Found On Surface Of One Of Saturns Moons

An unusual “ice volcano” on Enceladus, one of the many moons of Saturn, appears to be spewing out plumes of water, Nasa scientists report.

The Cassini spacecraft, which has been orbiting Saturn since 2004, has taken images of bizarre volcanic features at the moon’s southern pole which could indicate bodies of liquid water on the otherwise frozen satellite.

If water is being heated by volcanic activity to its liquid state then there is a slim possibility that life might also exist on Enceladus, said Carolyn Porco, the Cassini imaging team leader at the Space Science Institute in Boulder, Colorado.

“We realise that this is a radical conclusion - that we may have evidence for liquid water with a body so small and so cold,” Dr Porco said. “However, if we are right, we have significantly broadened the diversity of solar system environments where we might possibly have conditions suitable for living organisms.”
